Melissa Hammond
Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Melissa moved into General Practice a year ago from secondary care. She qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 2004 with a Bachelor in Science Degree in Queens University Belfast, she completed a Higher Diploma in Cardiovascular and Critical Care Specialist Nursing in Trinity College Dublin. She progressed on to achieve her Masters in Science at UCD for Advanced Practice Nursing. Melissa is a Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) and is 1 of 11 RANPs in General Practice in Ireland. She is passionate about this evolving role in healthcare and is on the committee for the Irish Association of Advanced Nurse/Midwifery Practitioners representing primary care.
Melissa is a Registered Nurse Prescriber and has a special interest in Chronic Disease Management, Health Screening and Preventative Medicine. This would include looking after minor illness such low risk acute care, hypertension and lipid management. She provides chronic disease programmes for all patients in regards to weight management, asthma, copd, heart disease, arrhythmia, heart failure, diabetes and stroke. She is also trained in cervical check smear taking and oral contraception.
On her time off when not shooting hoops at basketball, she enjoys gardening and spending time with family hiking in the great outdoors.
